Our Last Day In Freiburg

Momma's picture

All week John has been wanting to go up the Schauinslandbahn, a cable car tram whose gondola cars travel 1284 meters up Freiburg's highest mountain. The ride is the longest in Germany - 3.6 km. So after taking the train and bus to the end of the line, we boarded one of the gondolas for a beautiful, smooth, scenic ride up the mountain. On the way up there were many fantastic views of peaceful wooded slopes and far vistas. At the top, the view down below was clouded, but almost to the top we could see the tops of the near mountains and a view of the Alps. At the top we enjoyed hot drinks and dessert in a restaurant and watched not only the Alps but several hang-gliders who leaped fearlessly into the wind from the top of the mountain. John, this was a wonderful idea! (Readers, see the image galleries for more great pictures taken by John, our official photographer.)

Tonight we had dinner in a sushi bar and have enjoyed visiting and remembering. I will be sorry to leave Freiburg and our time here, but what wonderful memories we will have. And so until the next vacation...Auf Wiedersehen!

Thanks Faith

Thank you so much for blogging your trip. I am guessing that John and Joni are good tour guides from the sounds of your blogs. It has gotten me very excited about my trip in May! What wonderful things that you saw and did!
