Wow, how time flies. This week finds us in Iowa City visiting John's parents. We've had a busy busy busy week thus far, and I'm sure it will only get busier as the zero hour approaches :) We have said goodbye to so many people, and run so many errands, I think that my head my fall off once we get to Germany from the shock of having NOTHING to do!
We've really enjoyed being in Eastern Iowa the last few days, albeit the aforementioned chaos. Last night we went and visited my lovely sister, Jaci and her husband Mike. It was really good seeing them, but really hard to say goodbye.
Tonight, the 25th of August was my mother-in-law, Faith's birthday. We enjoyed a scrumptuous meal at an multi-ethnic restaurant here in Iowa City, which was serving African food tonight. We love those beignets! The Chef even did an honorary drum performance for her.
We also visited with our friend MeganJo, who just recently moved to the Iowa City area. It was really good catching up with her, but I think that we kept her out way too late. Law students need to sleep a whole lot more than the rest of us, especially homeless lazy-bums like ourselves.
Saying goodbyes to all of our friends and family has made me realize just how lucky I am. I never realized how strong of a support system I have, and how hard it is to leave all of it behind. I really appreciate those of you who are able to visit us while we are abroad, and I'm going to really miss those of you who aren't able to. Having people in my life who care so much too unbelievable for words! Please write often. Or if you can't write, at least send happy thoughts our way. We will be doing the same.

Good luck!
John and Joni,
Your lovely mother forwarded me the info so I can keep up with you guys! Best of luck to you both. I hope you are starting (?) to get settled in and adapting to the new culture in Germany. I'm so excited for both of you! I loved the pictures and plan to at least log in once a week to see what is new. Take care of each other and know we're all thinking of you. Love, Judy
